NiMet warns Nigerians over rising gases in atmosphere

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned the public about the continuous rise of the average concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere with devastating global consequences.

 

Speaking on Thursday in Abuja, the Director General o, NiMet, Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu said that the world has seen ravaging storms cutting across several international borders during their lifecycles.

 

Matazu, while speaking at the event, with the theme: The Future of Weather, Climate and Water across Generations, said: “As you may be aware, every year on the 23rd of March, the World celebrates Meteorological Day.

 

“This ‘day’ commemorates the coming into force on 23rd March 1950 of the Convention establishing the World Meteorological Organisation.” He said before this date, the International Meteorological Organisation had existed since 1987.
