Abia guber: False election result cannot overturn LP’s victory – Alex Otti

Dr. Alex Otti, the Labour Party candidate for governor of Abia State, has stated that the party’s victory in the state cannot be overturned despite the alleged manipulation of the Obingwa axis result.

At a press conference in Abuja, he stated that the Bimodal Voter Authentication System (BVAS) has revealed that the Obingwa axis has fewer than 30,000 voters.

Given the LP’s commanding lead in the race and the fact that there are fewer than 30,000 registered voters in Obingwa, he argued that the number cannot alter the outcome.

Therefore, he urged the people of Abia State to remain calm and reassured them that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was reviewing the result from the Obingwa axis, where they fabricated over 80,000 figures, while the total votes for the two legislators in the Abia state Assembly from the area are less than 30,000.

According to him, “I would like to take this opportunity to urge the Abians to maintain peace and tranquility. 16 local governments have been compiled out of the state’s 17 local councils.

“The votes received by the Labour party from the sixteen local governments exceed 171,000. This is less than 80 thousand. Therefore, you must flip and dice it.

“Even if they write a number that is unsupported by the law, it cannot derail our victory.”

“It is also important to note that we believe INEC will act ethically.

“All other declared local governments have used the BVAS machine for accreditation, and we are confident that INEC will not change the rules in the middle of the race.

“We are urging Labour Party members and Abians to remain calm while INEC reviews the election results.

“Another important point is that we are also thanking INEC; as we have always said, the BVAS is a game-changer, especially if there is a willingness to use it.”

This time, the BVAS has de-mythified the Obingwa Local Government in Abia State.

“You will recall that when I ran for the first time in 2015, Obingwa produced 82,000 votes. To reverse the victory given to us by the Abia people.

The BVAS has demonstrated that there were no more than 30,000 votes cast. This is what we demonstrated in 2015, which led to our appellate court victory.”

He thanked his opponents for calling to congratulate him on his victory and asked INEC to release the results of the March 18 Governor’s election in the state.

He congratulated the competing Guber candidate and sent him messages of congratulations. Professor Creg Ibe, the APGA candidate, received a letter from Chie Bon’s Emeka Nwakoa Accord Party.

Otti urged INEC to ensure that only BVAS results complying with Section 47 of the Electoral Act are valid.

Section 47 of the Electoral Act, 2022, as amended, states: “A person who intends to vote in an election must present his voter’s card to a presiding officer for accreditation at the polling unit in the registered constituency.”

“In order to vote, the presiding officer shall use a smart card reader or any other technological device prescribed by the Commission, for the accreditation of voters, to verify, confirm, or authenticate the particulars of the intending voter in accordance with the manner prescribed by the Commission.”
