Chimaroke Nnamani, the former governor of Enugu State, has left the Peoples Democratic Party after months of speculation.

Nnamani announced his decision in an Abuja-based statement he signed and made available to the press yesterday.

During the 2023 elections, he openly advocated for Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, the now-elected president of the All Progressives Congress, over Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of his own party.

The former governor of Enugu State, who is now a senator representing Enugu East, resigned from the PDP less than twenty-four hours after failing to return to the Senate on the same platform.

He expressed gratitude to his constituents for their unwavering support over the years.

Senator Nnamani stated that after consulting with his colleagues and constituents, he has decided to resign from the PDP due to irreconcilable differences with the party’s national leadership.

He stated that he had moved on and hoped that his modest contributions to the development of his constituency would serve as a foundation for his successors.

The federal lawmaker expressed gratitude to Nigerians, particularly the Ebeano political family, and urged them to remain steadfast in the years to come.

In part of his statement, he said, “The former governor reaffirmed his relationship with President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and pledged to continue working with him.

“Senator Nnamani expressed confidence that a Tinubu administration will promote good governance, the rule of law, and human rights in the interest of all Nigerians,”
