INEC declares Nasarawa Governor Sule the winner of the elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule the winner of the state’s governorship election on Saturday after he received the most votes.
Sule, the All Progressives Congress candidate seeking re-election for a second term, received 347, 209 votes, with his closest challenger, David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party, receiving 283,016 votes and Abdullahi Maidoya of the New Nigeria Peoples Party receiving 11,726 votes.
Prof. Ishaya Tanko, the INEC’s Returning Officer in Nasarawa State, announced the election results in Lafia on Monday.
Tanko, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos in Plateau State, also stated that Mohammed Mustapha, the Social Democratic Party candidate, received 9,003 votes.
According to the Returning Officer, the total number of registered voters in the state was 1,899,244.
He added that the state had 668,978 accredited voters, but the total votes cast were 660,805, with 6,934 rejected votes.
“Having satisfied the requirements and receiving 347,209 votes by the APC with the candidate, Sule Audu, is hereby returned and declared the winner of the governorship election in Nasarawa State,” Prof. Tanko said.
