In Daura on Saturday, President Muhammadu Buhari urged Nigerians to accept the bribes offered by politicians rather than succumbing to them and cast their ballots in accordance with their moral convictions.

After casting his ballot at Ward A, Sarkin Yara Polling Unit, 003 in Daura, Katsina State, the President informed journalists of this.

Additionally, he claimed that the new naira policy had prevented the unscrupulous elements from using naira notes to sway the election results in their favor.

And if they bring out money now, the people should pocket it and still vote their conscience, he said, adding that he was aware that there was less money available than in the past for people to influence voters.

This information was provided by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President for Media and Publicity, in a statement he released on Saturday under the heading “Nigerians know we mean what we say, they will vote for us again, says President Buhari.”

According to Buhari, voters should act in accordance with their conscience when selecting state legislatures and executive branch officials.

He declared that his administration had “diminished” the practice of buying votes.

The President also praised the media’s contribution to educating the public about their rights and giving citizens a forum to question elected officials about their promises and performance, deepening democratic culture and awareness among Nigerians.

“The media is doing a great job of fostering dialogue and raising awareness. The President noted that during interviews on TV, radio, and other platforms, you can hear the tough questions for leaders, and the journalists always press for answers.

He expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will benefit from the results of the governorship and state assembly elections because Nigerians are aware that the party “means what it says, and says what it means.”

The President stated that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s election as the next president on February 25, 2023 did not surprise him because the APC’s campaigns were thorough and well-organized.

I have no doubt that we will triumph once more, he said.

Buhari cautioned that the era of vote buying had passed and urged the electorate to vote according to their conscience when selecting the right legislators and state executives.

“I am aware that there isn’t as much money as there used to be for people to influence voters. And if they bring out money right now, the people ought to keep it in their pockets while casting their votes, he advised.

The President noted that the APC adhered to constitutional procedures throughout the entire electoral process, selecting Sen. Abdullahi Adamu as party chairman. Adamu previously served two terms as governor of Nasarawa State and as a senator. His experience will ensure the party’s electoral value and relevance.

Because we say what we mean and mean what we say, Nigerians trust us. That faith has been upheld. We promised to work for Nigerians, and they know it because we’ve done our best to improve the country’s educational and medical infrastructure.

The Buhari family and aides cast their votes in the ward as well.
