Man arrested over alleged rape of minor in Ondo

Police in Ondo state have arrested a 45-year-old man, Ojo Akerele, in Idoani town, in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state, for defiling a ten-year-old girl.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Funmi Odunlami, who disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Akure, said the suspect lured the young girl to an uncompleted building where the girl was sexually violated.

She explained that the matter was investigated and the suspect had confessed to the crime and admitted that he gave the girl N100 after defiling her.

Odunlami said “a case of defilement was reported against one Ojo Akerele ‘m’ Age 45years and he was subsequently arrested by security operatives.

“The victim (Names withheld) Aged 10, was lured to an uncompleted building by the suspect where he had carnal knowledge of her, after which giving her ₦100.

“The suspect claimed that the girl usually comes with her friend to collect ₦100 from him on a daily and that while she was asking for the money he drew her closer and had carnal knowledge of her”

Odunlami said an investigation had commenced into the matter and said the suspect will be charged in court as soon as the investigation is completed.

The PPRO advised members of the public to ensure adequate security measures toward safeguarding their children both at home, in the school and on the streets.

She also urged members of the public to collaborate with and assist, the Police with useful information to enable them to serve society better.
