The governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has said that he will go to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) if banks in the state stop taking old Naira notes after he shuts them down.

So, the governor told people in the state to use the old bills and to report any banks or businesses that won’t take them.

Soludo made the announcement on his Facebook page on Monday. He said that Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, told him that commercial banks could give out and accept old bills from customers.

He wrote, “The Central Bank has told commercial banks to give out old bills and also accept them as deposits from customers.” Tellers at commercial banks are in charge of making the deposit codes, and there is no limit on how many times a person or business can make a deposit.

“The Governor of the CBN gave the order at a meeting of the Bankers’ Committee on March 12, 2023. During a phone call with me on Sunday night, the Governor, Dr. Godwin Emefiele, confirmed all of the above.

“Anambra residents should therefore feel free to accept and do business with both the old (N200, N500, and N1,000) and new (N100, N500, and N1,000) notes.

“Residents should let the government know about any bank that won’t take the old bills as deposits. The Anambra State Government will not only tell the CBN about such a bank, but it will also shut down the branch right away if it doesn’t pay.
