Two Nigerians are detained by Indian police for marriage fraud
Two Nigerian men named Alex, 30, and Ibeh, 45, were detained by Indian police for allegedly defrauding several Indian women on matrimonial applications.
The accused used the app to entice women and demand money under the guise of paying customs fees for gifts, according to information released by the police on Sunday. The accused also pretended to be wealthy IT professionals and marine engineers.
The accused, Alex (30) and Ibeh (45), have been defrauding women for months under the pretense of sending and receiving gifts, according to Indian police. A 24-year-old woman who lives in the President Estate neighborhood claimed she lost Rs 4 lakh, which brought the situation to light.
“The woman told us she met a man named Aman Arora on a matrimonial site,” a senior police officer revealed. He claimed to be a British marine. The man informed her he was traveling to Mumbai to meet her when they first spoke on WhatsApp.
According to the police, the men defrauded numerous women while working with other Nigerian gang members.
