Police Confirm Popular Video Of Alleged Naval Officer Assault

1

In a viral video on social media, the Delta State Police command confirmed that Nigerian Navy personnel had attacked a police officer.

An officer who had been assaulted was seen in the one-minute, 30-second clip moving around restlessly inside the police station as enraged coworkers pleaded with him to remain calm. Near Warri, at the Enerhen police station, the incident took place.

The unnamed officer’s face was covered in blood, and part of his police uniform was torn.

Kingsley, calm down, a voice yelled from the background. Don’t try to impose laws on others.

The allegedly assaulted officer responded by removing his shirt and scurrying towards the gate, seemingly in an effort to find the naval personnel responsible for the alleged assault. “Make una leave me,” he commanded.

The brief video then showed him exiting the gate before the camera quickly zoomed in on some armed naval officers who were standing just outside the police station’s gate.

The camera panned quickly to another scene where a police officer fought vehemently with one of the naval officials before moving closer to a naval official who appeared to be making a phone call.

However, it is unclear what might have sparked the conflict between the Nigerian Navy employees and police officers.

No official would comment on the matter, making attempts to get the opinion of the military authorities in the state fruitless.

However, in a telephone conversation with Channels Television, Mr. Bright Edafe, the public relations officer for the Delta State Police, confirmed the incident.

The incident took place at the Enerhen police station in the Warri region, according to the police spokesperson.

Additionally, he reaffirmed that the Nigerian Navy and Police Command’s top brass are in charge of the situation.
