The Governor of Lagos State and all Yoruba have received assurances from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) that the group has no plans to attack any area or tribe unless it is threatened.
The pro-separatist group responded to a claim made by a group going by the name of the Delta Igbos that the IPOB had sent a Special Squad to Lagos to cause mayhem, saying that the IPOB is a non-violent organization seeking only the freedom of its people through a referendum.
The group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Powerful, urged the Lagos State Governor, Yoruba traditional rulers, their opinion shapers, politicians, and Afenifere leaders, especially Chief Gani Adams, to take all necessary steps to prevent the so-called Delta Igbos and their sponsors from moving forward with their plans to overthrow the Igbo and Yoruba people. This was done in an effort to prevent igbo violence.

The statement says, in part: “The public statement from a group, Delta Igbos, alleging that IPOB had deployed IPOB Special Squad in Lagos to cause mayhem has drawn the attention of the global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ably led by our great and indefatigable liberator Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu KANU. We would have disregarded this false report from these traitors, but it is now clear that they are collaborating with the adversaries who have recently encouraged Igbophobia in Lagos. To be clear, IPOB is not and will never be a political player in Nigeria. Members of IPOB cannot be used as political thugs because they have no interest in Nigerian politics. Unless threatened, IPOB will never attack any group, individual, or tribe. Violence has never occurred at an IPOB rally anywhere in the world.
IPOB, therefore, warned that, “those raising these false alarms should be held responsible for the arson and destruction of Igbo properties. They are the agents of the tribal bigots in Lagos who are promoting ethnic hatred against Igbos.”
