Fani-Kayode’s interrogation not over, says DSS
The Department of State Services on Tuesday said the interrogation of a former Minister of Aviation and Director of Special Projects and New Media for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Femi Fani-Kayode, is not over.
The DSS invited Fani-Kayode on Monday over a series of tweets he made over the weekend, alleging that some high-ranking military officers met with the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, with a view to carry out a coup.
Although, Fani-Kayode, after being interrogated yesterday, admitted that he was wrong by failing to clarify things with relevant authorities before making the controversial statement, adding that he could have been more circumspect and handled things differently.
However, after a five-hour long interrogation session, the DSS has now said the chapter of interrogation into the matter is not closed. The agency also warned political parties to apply restraint in their comments during the period of the elections.
A statement by the DSS Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, read, “The Department of State Services hereby informs the public that it invited Chief Femi Fani-Kayode to its National Headquarters, Abuja, on 13th February, 2023. The invitation was in respect of an investigation of some of his allegations and insinuations relating to issues relevant to National Security.
“Chief Fani-Kayode faced a Panel which interviewed him on the subject matter. Afterwards, the Service granted him administrative bail and directed that he makes routine returns to the Office with effect from Wednesday, 15th February, 2023 till otherwise. The investigation, however, continues.
“Meanwhile, political parties and their media managers are advised to apply restraint in their utterances and public communication engagements prior to and after the general elections. This is to avoid heating up the polity and evoking tendencies that could lead to violent reactions as well as undermine peace and order.”
