PSC suspends promotion of 11 DCPs, eight CPs over failure to appear for interview

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has suspended the promotion of eight commissioners of police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs) and 11 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the next rank of Commissioners (CPs) following their failure to appear before it for the mandatory promotion interview.

The commission had sent invitations to the officers to appear before it for the usual interaction to ascertain their suitability and capability for the new offices.

A statement yesterday in Abuja by the commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, said the PSC expressed surprise by the failure of the officers to honour the invitation, especially as the 2023 general election is just few days away.

The commission also approved the appointment of three Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs).

The new DIGs are expected to fill the vacant duty posts created due to the retirements of three DIGs representing the Northcentral, the Northeast and the Northwest.

The approval of the appointments of the new DIGs has also ensured that the defined succession policy in the Nigeria Police is sustained.

The statement said the Force Secretary, AIG Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa, would replace DIG Mustapha Dan-Daura, who retired on January 15, for the Northwest slot.

It also said AIG Aji Ali Janga, from the Northeast, would replace DIG Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim, who retired on November 26, 2022, while AIG Adeleke Adeyinka Bode, from Northcentral, would replace DIG Sanusi Lemu, who retired on January 31.
