The new Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed, at the weekend told corps members to avoid political arguments before, during, and after the February 25 and March 11 elections.

Ahmed, who cautioned the corps members against showing political bias, also advised them not to embark on unauthorised journeys that could undermine their security.

“Corps members, especially those who will be engaged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as ad hoc workers, should remain unbiased electoral officers in line with the provision of the amended 2022 electoral laws.

Addressing the 2023 Batch “A” Stream “I” corps members, who were having their orientation programme at the temporary orientation camp at the Government College at Kurmin Mashi in Kaduna State, Ahmed said unauthorised journeys would attract sanctions, as enshrined in the scheme’s Acts.

The new DG stressed that his administration would continue to ensure that corps members enjoy improved welfare and security.

“It is a thing of pride to serve your fatherland, but don’t risk your lives via unauthorised journeys. Be disciplined and prayerful. Also, be confident of yourselves; do your work diligently. I assure you, nothing bad will happen to you.

“Avoid crime, obey the rules and regulations in the camp, and respect your leaders,” he said.

In his camp situation report, the state’s NYSC Coordinator Agbor Obim said a total of 1,077 corps members, comprising 407 males and 679 females, were registered at the camp.

He said the corps members were participating fully in camp activities and listed some of the challenges to include high cost of goods and services, hikes in the price of petrol, inadequate accommodation, among others.
