Hoodlums kill churchgoer, gang member in Anambra
Some hoodlums on Sunday killed two people during an invasion of Mgbuka-Amanzu Road, Nkpikpa, in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
An eyewitness, who identified herself as Mama Chinedu, said the gunmen, numbering about four, were in a tricycle.
She noted that the gang cornered an unidentified man going to church, shot and dispossessed him of his belongings and fled.
The resident said, “The gunmen double-crossed the young man, who was going to church, with their tricycle, shot him and dispossessed him of his belongings before firing some shots as they were leaving the scene.
“We don’t know if it was a case of robbery or assassination. But as the armed men were firing the shots, the bullets hit one of the gang members in the tricycle and he died. They moved about 50 meters away from the scene, dropped the lifeless body of their member and zoomed off. The police from the Okpoko division came this morning to remove the two corpses.”
Our correspondent, who visited the scene on Monday, observed as members of the community, who did not go to work because of the sit-at-home order, gathered and discussed the incident in groups.
The state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, simply said, “I don’t have such a report before me. I will make an enquiry and get back to you please.”
But a police source at Okpoko confirmed that two corpses were removed from the scene on Monday.
