Youths kill village head in Niger

The village head of Lambata in Gurara local government area of Niger State Mohammed Abdulsafur has been killed during a violent clash among youths on Saturday evening.

 

Abdulsafur died as a result of the injuries inflicted on him by youths during the attack.

 

The reason for the attack remains unknown but it was learnt he youths invaded the residence of the village head and attacked him.

 

The Niger State Government confirmed the death of Lambata village head and imposed a curfew in Lambata from Sunday till further notice.

 

In a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, the State Government, said the curfew would be from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, adding the action would assist the security agencies to stabilise the situation in the area, save lives and ensure restoration of law and order.

 

“Government condemn in strong terms the violence and act of lawlessness that has occurred in Lambata town”.

 

The State Government called on the residents of the area to cooperate with the security agents in the urgent task of restoring peace in Lambata urging security agencies to ensure the enforcement of the curfew.

 

The late village head, who retired as the State Control Officer in the Leprosy and Tuberculosis programme, is survived by a wife and 13 children.
