Bandits murder village head, abduct three in Niger
Bandits operating in Niger State have killed the Village Head of Mulo village in Mashegu Local Government Area, Mallam Usman Garba, after he was abducted.
This was made known during a press briefing in Minna on Friday by the Niger state Commissioner of Internal Security, Emmanuel Umar.
He stated that the bandits invaded the Mulo community on Thursday abducting the village head and four others.
The PUNCH gathered that Garba was killed a few kilometers after he was abducted and his corpse was abandoned while the bandits left with the three others.
The commissioner said although the insecurity situation across the state has subsided, there are still some threats and pockets of attacks in some communities, especially in Mashegu, Mariga, and Kontagora Local Government Areas.
“There is improvement in the security situation in the state. There has been a reduction in attacks but we are aware that the threat is still there and still exists. Of recent, we have seen attacks in the fringes of Mashegu, Mariga, and Kontagora,” he said.
He added that security agencies in the state have been directed to come out in full force to flush out the terrorists and completely eradicate insecurity in these local government areas.
“The governor has directed all security agencies to come out in full force to ensure that this festive period has no incident. There will be an increase in patrol and visibility,” the commissioner promised.
