Against the backdrop of increasing political violence in Kogi state, the AIG Zone 8, Asafa Adekunle has vowed to deal decisively with politicians who refused to play the game by its rules, particularly those going around tearing posters and destroying the billboards of their opponents.

AIG Asafa disclosed this during a meeting of his command on Tuesday at the state police headquarters, Lokoja. In attendance at the meeting were also politicians, leaders of political parties, Civil society Organisations (CSOs), religious bodies among others.

He told the politicians to rethink and stay off the violent approach as a means to achieve their ambition in the forthcoming election in Kogi, stressing that the era of violence, thuggery, ballot snatches and other vices in during election is over.

“Violence will not solve anything. Go and canvass, convince, sell your policies and tell the electorates why you are a better candidate. Burning billboards, posters and other campaign materials of your opponent will not win you the election. The introduction of BVAS in our electoral system has put an end to it”, the police boss said.

The AIG added that the Zone 8 Command has resolved to be impartial, ready and professional in their approach before, during and after the forthcoming election.

Earlier, the state police commissioner, CP Hakeem Adesina Yusuf assured the politicians that the command will play a neutral role, by advising them to play the game within the ambit of the law, including its guidelines.
