Adamawa man accused of stealing brother’s N40,000 commits suicide
A 34-year-old man, Iliya Adamu, has committed suicide after he was accused of stealing his brother’s N40,000 in a village in Girei, in the Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Adamu’s corpse was found dangling on a tree in a nearby bush in the community.
He was said to have committed suicide because he could not withstand being mocked and called a thief after his yet-to-be-identified brother reportedly accused him of stealing the N40,000 kept in a family safe.
After perpetrating the crime, his family members alongside neighbours, who could not locate his whereabouts, launched a search for him in the community.
They were said to have found his lifeless body in the bush two days after he went missing.
Sources in the community also said a container of insecticide was found under the tree where his corpse was found.
Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, who confirmed the incident said, “The command is investigating the suicide.”
