Customs intercept smuggled clothes, cream, others worth N690m
The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘B’ intercepted 758 bales and sacks of smuggled used clothing and body cream with duty paid value of N690.8 million within the zone.
The NCS Comptroller, Albashir Hamisu, taking newsmen round the items in Kaduna State on Friday, said that the seized items include 473 cartons of foreign pharmaceutical products.
He said, ”The operations unit has recorded a lot of successes. We recorded 132 seizures.
”Other items seized are 533 cartons of foreign pasta, macaroni, and 749 bags of foreign parboiled rice.”
He said that smugglers were getting sophisticated in their illegal acts.
”We conducted this operation based on information gathered from the military.
“This is a big catch through the land border. The federal government has good plans for Nigeria. If these are allowed to come in, our textile industries would not survive,” he said.
He said 24 units of used vehicles were also seized.
Similarly, he said 59 jerry cans of vegetable oil and 41 bags of foreign fertilisers worth over N2m were also seized, among others.
Shortly after handing over the seized cannabis, the Assistant Commander Narcotics from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Ali Kubau, thanked the FOU Zone B for the seizure, which he described as very important.
”We were here some weeks ago to collect similar substances seized by your officers. This is a seizure, that ensures everybody goes to sleep.
”This is what propels bandits to unleash whatever terror. They even request Indian Hemp part of condition to release victims kidnapped.
“I want to commend the NCS for this, it is a wonderful seizure, we will continue to work together to ensure everyone goes to sleep with two eyes closed,” he said.
