3 Killed, 7 Injured In Anambra Road Crash

A fatal accident in Anambra State has  claimed the lives of three people  and injured seven others.

The accident  involved 10 people comprising  six male adults and four female adults.

Out of the number, three persons, two men and a woman, were killed, while seven others sustained injuries.

 

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State, said an unidentified driver of a blue Scania truck (commercial) with number plate: LSD697YD and an unidentified driver of a blue/white Mistibuchi L300 bus (commercial) with number plate: LEH596XA, were involved in the crash along Onitsha bridge by Asaba-Onitsha Expressway around 10am on Friday.

The  FRSC said that the probable cause of the fatal crash was break failure and mechanical deficiency.

According to an eyewitness, the truck developed fault and broke down on the bridge.

 

The eyewitness said that on sighting a towing vehicle towing another vehicle out of the bridge and sensing that the tow truck might come back later to tow his vehicle, the driver quickly moved his vehicle without fixing the fault.

The eyewitness said as the vehicle zoomed off, its brakes failed and it rammed into three pedestrians walking down the bridge.

 

He said the vehicle finally collided with a bus, while the driver fled the scene.

The FRSC also stated that it was rescue a team from RS5.31 Onitsha that took the victims to Toronto Hospital where three persons were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

The corpses were said to have been deposited at the hospital morgue while the injured victims were receiving treatment.

 

The Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander, Adeoye Irelewuyi, urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before plying the road.
