Nigeria signs £25m deal for Power

On Wednesday The Nigerian government signed a deal for a (AFD) a grant agreement of €25 million for the Northern Corridor Project jointly funded by the European Union and the AFD with French Development Agency

 

Prince Clem Agba, Minister of State for Budget and National Planning and the AFD Country Director in Nigeria, Xavier Muron, signed the agreement along with the Ambassador of France to Nigeria, Emmanuelle Blatmann, and the Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ms. Cecile TASSIN-PELZER in Abuja.

 

The Minister of State, Clem Agba said im his remarks that the grant will help Nigeria’s power plan, especially in the Northern part of the country.

He further went on to say “The federal government will ensure that the project is executed efficiently for the economic growth of the country.

 

Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, Managing Director of the Transition Company of Nigeria, in a statement to the The Northern Corridor Project, being implemented by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), is meant to strengthen a low-carbon economic growth in West Africa by improving the quality of the electricity network in Nigeria and supporting the development of a regional electricity market under the West African Power Pool (WAPP).

 

It said the project will reinforce the north-west network (from Kaduna) and develop access to electricity in the north linking an interconnection project with the Niger Republic.

 

AFD Country Director in Nigeria, Xavier Muro said “The project will build more than 800km of 330 kilovolts double circuit transmission lines and construct or upgrade 13 substations.
