3 children killed by collapsed fence and truck accident
Over the weekend three children were killed in two separate accidents that occurred at Amukoko, Olodi Apapa and Iyana Isolo, Mushin areas of Lagos.
Two of the kids, aged nine and three, were killed when the fence of Covenant Point Academy, Ajose Close collapsed on them while the third child, a seven-year-old boy, was crushed by a fallen containerised truck at Iyana Isolo on Saturday.
It was gathered that the kids were around the school when the fence caved in around 5pm.
It was learnt that one of the kids died on the spot while the other, who was unconscious, passed on before arriving the hospital.
Sources alleged that the building was not well structured, had no pillars, no wiring and nothing to hold it together.
The seven-year-old boy was said to have been crushed after the truck fell on three commercial buses around 12:30 pm on Saturday.
Sources said the weight of the container landed heavily on the bus the kid was commuting in with his dad.
While the impact killed the minor on the spot, his father was said to have sustained some fractures.
Three other passengers were said to have also sustained injuries from the accident.
The Nation reports that it took the intervention of the police, soldiers and other paramilitary agencies for the truck and affected buses to be taken off the highway to restore traffic flow.
Confirming the incidents, Police Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the school’s proprietor and another suspect were arrested in connection with the Amukoko disaster.
He said the case had been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for Investigation and possible prosecution.
