Another Murder of enugu indigene in community
Another native of the community of Nkanu, Enugu has been killed. three weeks shy of the gruesome murder of Chief Linus Nwatu, was gruesomely murdered by some gunmen. President-General of Oruku Town Union in Nkanu East local government area of Enugu State, Chikodili Ngwu, from Ameke village in the crisis-torn Oruku community, was reportedly shot and killed on Sunday morning by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
Ngwu, a middle-aged man, is said to be the ninth on the list of indigenes of the community so far murdered by gunmen believed to be working for some powerful personalities involved in the protracted communal conflict in the area.
Village sources told our correspondents that the victim was gunned down around 8am within the Oruku market square.
It was learnt that the gunmen fled the scene after the shooting the man, a development that left the villagers in panic.
The incessant killings in the community, villagers said has forced many to relocate their families to neighbouring communities and towns such as Idodo, Akpoga, Akpawfu, Onuogba and Emene.
It was gathered that residents of the community were concerned about the authorities’ indifferent stance on the crisis in the community.
There were unconfirmed reports some of the suspects apprehended in connection with past attacks were released without trial, a development that has heightened insecurity in the area.
The crisis has claimed prominent members of the community since 2020, including the traditional ruler, Igwe Emmanuel Mba, who was gruesomely murdered.
When contacted, Enugu Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Daniel Ndukwe, said he was yet to be briefed about the development, promising to get back after contacting relevant officers in-charge of the area.
