2023: Atiku not working to divide Rivers PDP – Support group
The camp of the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has dismissed the news report making rounds that he is planning to divide the Rivers State Chapter of the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
It could be recalled that Atiku and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers have been at loggerhead recently over the emergence of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as the vice presidential candidate in the forthcoming presidential election.
This has, however, led to a major crisis in the main opposition party as the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) last Wednesday moved to reconcile the duo and clear the coast in order to win the much-anticipated elections.
Meanwhile, the camp of Governor Wike has alleged that Atiku has ignored the Governor and had started meeting with some Rivers PDP chieftains
The governor camps also claim that the former vice president aims to isolate Governor Wike ahead of the elections.
Reacting to the allegation, Atiku’s camp blamed the fifth columnist for the claim that Atiku is trying to divide Rivers’ PDP, saying the former vice president remains committed to reconciliation within the party.
He said, “We don’t know where all of that is coming from. We need to be very careful. There is the fifth columnist who wants to profit from all of this. We are in process of mediation. So, we have to be very careful.
“ There are enemies also who do not want this thing to succeed. But I know that the peace process is ongoing.”
