Another fleeing Kuje escapee arrested along Adamawa-Borno border
The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old Kuje prison escapee, Abubakar Mohammed, who was trying to cross from Adamawa to his home in Borno State.
The police said on Thursday that Abubakar had confessed to facing terrorism charges and had been at the Kuje prison since 2017 before the recent breakout from the facility.
Abubakar was picked up after days of surveillance exercise in different parts of Adamawa State by police operatives among 12 other suspects.
The Adamawa Police Command said in a statement Thursday afternoon that Abubakar was trying to relocate to his native home in Bama local government area of Borno State when he was picked up around an Adamawa-Borno borderline on Wednesday, July 20.
The statement by Adamawa Commissioner of Police, CP Sikiru Akande, stressed that Abubakar had disclosed that he had been in detention at the Kuje facility since 2017 over alleged involvement in terrorism.
The Police stated operatives from the state CID and other relevant departments, “on the 20/07/2022, apprehended one Abubakar Mohammed, an escapee from recent Kuje Prison attack, who was tracing his way to Bama Local government area.”
Of the 12 other suspects that the command also arrested, Akande said they were suspected kidnappers and armed robbers and that assorted weapons had been recovered from them.
The police itemised the exhibits from the 12 suspects, aged between 17 and 40 years, as guns of different makes, daggers, knives, hammers, a military uniform, a tricycle, among other items.
