Palpable tension now mount in Osun State ahead of the governorship election holding in the state on Saturday.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be slugging it out with his arch opponent, Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Akin Ogunbiyi of the Accord Party (AP), Hon Lasun Yusuf of the Labour Party (LP) and Mr Goke Omigbodun of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) among other contestants spread across other political parties.
However, indications have shown that the governorship election will be keenly contested between the PDP and APC as the two major political parties appear to be fully on ground.
The election which holds in the 30 Local Government Areas of the state and the Area Office will bring an end to weeks of accusations and counter accusations which characterised the campaigns of all the major contenders in the election.
Already, there is serious tension in most part of the state, especially Osogbo the state capital and this affects commercial activities in the town as most commercial centres did not open for operations today apparently for fear of violence.
Also, many primary and secondary schools in the state closed earlier than their normal school schedule in other to prevent their students from being victims of violence.
This is even as many commercial drivers did not operate in many parts of the state.
Already the state Governor, Mr Oyetola had ordered the closure of all roads leading to the state from 6.00am to 4.00pm on Saturday.
The Governor in a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Wole Oyebamiji however said that workers on essential services are free to move during the period of restriction.
Meanwhile, security operatives including officers of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and those of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) are on patrol of the state.
The security operatives were seeing patrolling major roads in Osogbo, Ikirun, Ilesa, Ede and other major towns in the state to avoid breakdown of law and order before, during and after the election.
It was gathered that a popular thug known as Asiri Eniba was arrested by soldiers at the popular old garage area in Osogbo.
Eniba, was reportedly arrested alongside other thugs at a joint in the area and all efforts made by the thugs to escape arrest failed.
An unconfirmed source hinted that there was gun duel between the soldiers and the thugs but the soldiers eventually conquered them and effected their arrest.
The thugs according to the source were caught with weapons including guns, cutlasses and charms and they were dragged to an unknown destination. (Daily Sun)
