Two passengers killed as Police escorts open fire on Tricycle in Delta
Yet-to-be identified police escorts have allegedly shot dead a tricycle operator and two passengers along Uti Road, Effurun, Delta state.
The deceased passengers were identified as a ticket collector at nearby Ugbolokposo Junction, Ejiro aka Apepe and a meat seller at Effurun Market simply identified as Charlie.
It was gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening.
The passengers reportedly died instantly while the Keke Napep rider, who was rushed to a hospital, died later.
According to reports, the victims were shot for overtaking the escorts’ vehicle and denting it in the process.
Delta Police spokesman DSP Bright Edafe confirmed two deaths as of press time, adding it was still uncertain if the perpetrators were policemen.
“We are still not sure if they were police escorts for now. But both ways, it is not good news because two innocent people were killed.
“We are investigating to know which particular convoy or VIP was on movement when that incident happened. When we know that VIP, we will be able to fish out the people that did that dastardly act,” Edafe said. (The Nation)
