As the students of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) prepare for a peaceful demonstration, the National President of National Presidential Amnesty Students Worldwide (NAPASW), Comrade Lucky Ukueku, has said there were several questions begging for answers.
In a statement on Monday, July 4, 2022, made available to the media, Ukueku appreciated the PAP students for their support as they battle the problems confronting the programme under the current administration. Ukueku said he has sent several correspondence to the PAP office without receiving any positive response.
The statement reads: “First and foremost, I want to appreciate you all for giving me the needed support at this critical time, I really do appreciate.
“There are questions begging for answers: If the administration has done great as they claim, why are these questions yet unanswered? Why is there a litigation against the PAP office?
“What about the 198 students of the University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT) who have been suffering without consideration from the amnesty office?
“The (2019/2020) deployed are currently going to 400 Level without their laptop and most of them are studying computer science whilst some engage in E-Learning which makes laptop a priority, why is it still lingering for about 3 years?
“There are some students in BMU (2019/2020) set that were deployed to school but till date, they are not captured by the Presidential Amnesty Programme. This has caused untold hardship, why are there such inconsistencies?
“What about physical Verification/Assessment of school facilities as it was a basic routine check after deployment prior to this administration?
“Since the inception of this administration, students have not been issued sponsorship letter.
“How about the final year medical students in Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), who due to COVID-19 had an extension in their calendar who have been abandoned to their own fate without training allowances?
“There are so many other issues students are clamouring for and I, as the National President, I have written several letters to the PAP office without receiving positive response so as to get clear direction or timeframe as to when and how these issues will be resolved.”
In addition, the NAPASW President called on the entire students’ community to prepare for a mega peaceful protest, stating that “an injury to one is an injury to all.” He also assured the students that “names of those who threatened our peaceful protest have been forwarded to security agencies for notification as protest is an undeniable human right.”
“To this end, I hereby call on all the affected students and the entire Students Community, to gear up for a Mega Peaceful Protest that will commence in no distant time as modalities are being put in place as an injury to one, is an injury to all. The names of those who threatened our Peaceful Protest have been forwarded to security agencies for notification as protest is an undeniable human right.
“Finally, I urge the entire Students’ Community to keep the tempo high and be at alert as we put all Machineries on ground to express our grievances as it affects students general welfare,” Ukueku said.
