Pan-Igbo organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has hailed the Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu, and the Chairman of the Governing Council, Alhaji Kale Kawu, for the transparent process of electing a substantive Registrar of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, Mr Anthony Umeozor.

The polytechnic has been embroiled in internal wrangling over the appointment of a substantive Registrar, following the cold war between the management of the institution and the academic and non-academic staff which had preferred an internally generated Registrar.

Speaking to journalists, the National Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Damian Okeke Ogene, described the development as a new dawn for the school, adding that it has put to rest all the agitations and crises that have been rocking the Polytechnic.

Ogene said: “We wish to commend the Hon. Minister of Education for what he has done by ensuring a level playground and due process in the appointment of the substantive Registrar.

“Also we commend the leadership of the new Governing Council led by Alhaji Kale Kawu for ensuring that the right thing is done and this would go a long way in putting the institution in the right direction for effective teaching, learning and research.

“The school is in my local government area of Orumba North and we have had series of crises and internal wrangling over leadership and management of the polytechnic which has not helped the institution but with this kind of transparency in the appointment of the new Registrar, normalcy has returned to the school.”

On his part, the Community Representative in the Polytechnic, Barr. Okorie and the President-General of Okoh People’s Union (O.P.U), Mr Amaechi Okoli, observed that the transparent, free and fair appointment of the substantive Registrar is an indication that it would no longer be business as usual.

According to him, the new leadership of the Governing Council has proven that there was no room for compromising standards.

Chapter Secretary of ASUP in the Polytechnic, Comrade Ben Obiora, and Chairman of NASU, Comrade Emma Okolie, described the new Registrar as an administrator and hardworking man who has served in various capacities in the administration and management of the institution.

The duo assured that the new Registrar would bring his wealth of experience to the growth and development of teaching, learning and research, noting that his emergence would also serve as an example to other staff of the institution that hard work pays.

In his speech, the newly appointed Registrar, Anthony Umeozor, expressed joy that the process was free and fair, adding that he never lobbied for the job nor campaigned for the appointment.

“I did what I was asked to do and put in my papers and went home and when they called for interview, I attended and I was appointed and I wish to promise all and sundry that the Polytechnic would not be disappointed as I will surely put in my best for the good of the institution,” Umeozor said.
