Police, armed robbers exchange gunfire in Delta, one suspect killed, 7 others arrested

A suspected armed robber was on Wednesday killed during a gun duel with police operatives of the Delta State Command in the Umusadege area of Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.

While confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, disclosed that the seven other armed hoodlums were also arrested across the state.

He revealed that the division received a distress call over an armed robbery operation along Jesus Avenue in Umusadege quarters in Kwale.

He said that the DPO Kwale Division CSP Godwin Igoche Mobilized and led the Divisional Anti-Crime Patrol team to the scene when the suspects on sighting the police, engaged them in a gun duel, during which, the deceased suspect sustained bullet injuries while other suspects escaped.

Edafe disclosed that one locally-made gun, four live cartridges, and four expended cartridges were

recovered.

He then said that the injured suspect was taken to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment.

He further confirmed that the Divisional Anti-Crime Patrol team attached to ‘C’ Division Asaba while on stop and search duty at the head-bridge Asaba, Delta State intercepted four suspects namely; Michael Reuben ‘m’ 29yrs and Odemba Onochie ‘m’ 30yrs, both of Oko-Anala and Michael Reuben Oko in Oshimili South LGA, with 100 rounds of 7.62MM AK 47 live ammunition which were hidden inside a black polythene bag.

In a related development, during a stung operation, Edafe also disclosed that during a covert sting operation, two suspects – Ifeanyi Samson (28-year-old ex-convict) and 20-year-old Chibizor Obugo, were arrested at Onicha-Ugbo in Aniocha North Local Government Area.

He said one fabricated English pistol was recovered from them, adding that their confession led to the arrest of three other suspects with one Lifan Super Ladies and a Sanya Super Honda motorcycle.

Edafe gave the identities of the three suspects as 34-year-old Ike Okwudili who is the gang leader, 17-year-old Udoka Onyekanu Promise and 26-year-old Chiazor Daniel.

He further assured that investigation is ongoing to nab the fleeing suspects. (Daily Independent)
