Parents rushed to pick their children from schools on Monday in Uso community in Owo local government, Orita Obele and Ijoka areas of Akure South local government area following a false alarm of an attack on social media. Many traders closed shops and fled home as rumour filtered in that gunmen have invaded the town.

A Twitter message from one Adeola Ojimoju reads: “We are in danger at Oke Obere Ijoka, Akure Ondo State. Fulani came with guns this night. Everybody is in danger this night……pls we need help. Fulani is everywhere.”

In Owo where some worshippers were killed on June 5th, residents were said to have rushed home

The spokesman for Ondo Police Command, SP Fumilayo Odunlami, said the rate at which people caused the Police and the public undue stress would no longer be tolerated.

She said negative trends were fast becoming a habit within the State.

According to her: “The issue of raising false alarm in the State calls for caution as the Command will not allow any alarmist put unnecessary fear in the heart of the people of the State.

“It is saddening that in less than 24 hours, two false alarms have been raised within the State and this is not good for the mental health of the people considering the past security event in the State.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Oyeyemi Adesoye Oyediran, has ordered a thorough investigation into the false alarms and also warned these alarmists to desist or face the full wrath of the law as the Command will not fold its hand and allow such evil fester within the State.” (The Nation)
