Gunmen kill man, drop sit-at-home message on corpse
Fear has taken over Nkwelle Ezunaka community in Oyi Local Government
Area of Anambra State as residents worry over the killing of a man whose killers left a note on his corpse, saying ‘sit at home’.
The corpse was dumped at the triangle axis, on the Onitsha/Nkwelle-Ezunaka/Otuocha road.
An eyewitness account said that the man was brought to the scene at about 8am on Monday morning in a Lexus jeep by four fierce-looking armed men that shot indiscriminately.
He said the shooting scared people as they ran into the bush.
“The men wore face masks to cover their faces when they brought out the victim from the vehicle and shot him severally and he fell and died instantly.
“People ran away when they came and l was among those that ran into the bush and we were
watching them bring out the man and kill him.
“After killing him, one of them dropped a note on the corpse and they left immediately. When we eventually came out to have a closer look at the corpse, we saw that the note they dropped was written, ‘sit-at-home on Monday’.
“We also saw a police permit (sticker) for tinted windscreen vehicles that may have probably fallen from the vehicle of the unknown gunmen as the Lexus was also with tinted windscreen.
“These items that were later picked by some officials believed to be security personnel would assist immensely towards unmasking those behind the murder and reason for such barbaric gruesome killing,” the source stated.
A resident of the area who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that the community has been overwhelmed with fear following the incident.
He regretted that hoodlums now operate in broad daylight without fear, even security personnel are within reach.
“I worry and I’m afraid. Things have gone haywire around here. Look at the way they killed that man in the early hours of Monday morning even when government has given directives for people to go about their normal business on Mondays. Some people depend on daily job to eke a living,” he stated.
The Police could not be reached at the time of filing this report for reaction.
