Massive migration hits Katsina communities as 122 fresh households join Jibia IDP Camp
Jibia IDPs Camp located in the heart of Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State has in the last three months been receiving Internally Displaced Persons in their numbers.
This is a result of a series of attacks being carried out almost on daily basis by terrorist groups.
In this week alone, a total of 122 fresh households of Kwari village who were attacked on Saturday by terrorists joined the camp to get registered.
The victims are however calling on the Federal Government to come to their aid by intensifying the fight against terrorism with a view to restoring peace in their communities.
One of the displaced persons simply identified as Ma’aza Mukhtar said the terrorists invaded their community at about 9:30 pm riding on motorcycles.
“Upon their arrival, the residents started to run for safety after the terrorists started shooting sporadically. None of the security agencies responded to our distress call. They shepherd an unspecified number of people but some managed to escape from their captivity,” she explained.
A 22-year-old Yusuf Muhammad was also among the four escaped victims who escaped narrowly in the terrorists’ den.
He said, “After the terrorists took us to their den in the forest, I escaped and left behind 15 males and 17 females apart from several babies and children.”
In the meantime, the Chairman of Jibia Local Government Area, Hon. Sabi’u Maitan who couldn’t control his tears visited the camp to sympathize with the new batch of IDPs.
He claimed: “If you inform the security agencies to take action, they always say their job is not to deal with the terrorists; imagine how many security personnel we have here in Jibia? They are only good at manning the land border to collect money. Is that their job?
“In this batch of IDPs alone, Eighty (80) people are still unaccounted for. Which kind of disaster is this? What should I do for these people now?” he added.
It was reported on Saturday that terrorists in their numbers armed with sophisticated weapons attacked Farfaru and Kwari villages in Jibia Local Government Area of the State.
During the two separate reprisal attacks that took place at about 3:00 pm and 9:30 pm respectively, locals said the terrorists also set ablaze the two villages, adding that many women and children were kidnapped and livestock rustled.
The residents however described the attack as reprisal which was coming one day after security personnel arrested some Fulani bandits on Friday after observing Jumu’at prayer. (Channels TV)
