The Commandant of Delta State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akinsanya Iskilu Abiodun, has advised Nigerians to shun money politics in order to choose true leaders who have all it takes to turn the country around.

Akinsanya, who spoke during a recent Peace Summit in Asaba, said that serious efforts should be deployed to discourage money politics. “It is only empty politicians that offer money in place of merit, competence and professionalism. Those who have something to offer in order to rescue the country do not offer money but offer ideas and provide solutions to the problems facing Nigeria,” he said.

The Delta State NSCDC Commandant Akinsanya therefore warned politicians that the command under his watch, would not tolerate “money politics nor vote buying which is inimical to the socio-political and economic well being of the country.”

Akinsanya appealed to all lovers of Nigeria to use the opportunity that would be provided by the 2023 general elections to vote for “true leaders” and “not politicians,” stressing that “when true leaders emerge, the people would rejoice; national security challenges will be resolved and the country will bounce back again.”

On discouraging thuggery in 2023, Aknisanya said plans and programmes have mapped out on how the Command, through its Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit, and in Collaboration with the state government, Non-Governmental Organisations, private bodies, the traditional institutions and religious groups would sensitise the teeming youths on the dangers of thuggery or being used as thugs before, during and after the elections.

A statement by the Image Maker of the Command, Dsc Emeka Peters, Akinsanya urged politicians and every stakeholder to ensure that peace reigned during the 2023 polls as it was only god that gives power.

“Powers belongs to God and He gives power to whoever he wishes, irrespective of tribe, religion, social status or background,” Akinsanya said, and advised politicians against heating up the polity in order not to breach the security apparatchik  in the state, and the nation at large.
