The Institute of Chartered Accounts of Nigeria (ICAN) is poised to establish a university, which will accommodate more applicants as the existing universities do not have the capacity to absorb all them.

New ICAN president Mallam Tijjani Musa Isa said this yesterday during his Investiture as the 58th President.

He said: “ICAN  observed that there is limited space to admit all those eligible for admission and the Institute, therefore, intends to leverage on that.

“In that direction, land was purchased in Kwali Abuja for the establishment of the University.,

“In the last Presidential year, the Council had progressed with the acquisition of land and the fulfilment of the NUC requirements for the proposed ICAN University.

“In this Presidential year, the Council will advance with the commencement of Post Graduate programmes at the University.”

Earlier in her handover speech, Mrs Comfort Olu Eyitayo, 57th President, expressed confidence that the new President will no doubt propel the institute to new heights.

Recounting the institute’s achievements during her tenure, Eyitayo noted that ICAN established the Practical Entrepreneurship Initiative and built from the scratch, the ICAN Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC).

“We have graduated two streams of participants from the Centre. In addition, we enjoy collaborations of the Bank of Industry in establishing the ICAN-BOI Innovation Plus Hub and First Bank of Nigeria Limited on the Enterprise offerings at the EDC,” she stressed. (The Nation)
