Gunmen attack checkpoint, burn three vehicles in Katsina
Gunmen attacked a checkpoint and burnt three vehicles in Katsina State.
According to sources, two of the vehicles belonged to the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The third vehicle was said to have belonged to an individual.
It was learnt that the gunmen arrived at the checkpoint on more than fifty motorcycles a few minutes to midnight and shortly after soldiers who were on patrol, left for Jibia town following intelligence reports that another set of gunmen were heading towards the town from another angle.
The gunmen reportedly burnt down the vehicles and vandalised other items found at the checkpoint before retreating to the forest.
The spokesman for the Nigeria Customs Service in Katsina, Isah Danbaba who confirmed the incident said, “Yes, there was an attack. From the report we received, two operational vehicles and one private car belonging to an officer were set ablaze by the attackers. One of the vehicles belongs to the Customs while the other belongs to the Nigerian Immigration Service. As we speak, we are on our way to the site.” (Daily Independent)
