Sit-at-home: Five arrested for threatening food vendor in Anambra
Five men have been arrested in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State for threatening a food vendor.
The unidentified men were said to have approached the woman’s restaurant and got served food, but after eating, they refused to pay, threatening the food vendor for daring to come out on a sit-at-home day.
According to an eyewitness, who narrated the experience, the men had been in the habit of eating in restaurants without paying under the guise of punishing the operators for opening their businesses on restricted days.
The source said, “Those guys have been in the habit of eating in a local mama put on restricted days and refusing to pay. Today in Ekwulobia, they came to do the same thing.
“After eating food of about N750 each, they stood up to leave and the woman requested money. They said that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is in court and she’s opening her shop.
“One of them brought out a dagger and threatened to pour the woman’s food, claiming they were unknown gunmen.
“She held one of them in his shirt and said they can only leave without paying her if they kill her. She started screaming and people doing clean up in their frontages showed up.
“They were handed over to the vigilante.”
When contacted, the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said, “We don’t have such a report before us yet. But I urge the food vendor to go to the nearest police station and report. This will help us to identify the hoodlums and possibly arrest them.
“Meanwhile, with this information, our patrol team will be extended to the aforementioned area and the situation will be closely monitored please.” (The PUNCH)
