Gunmen allegedly attack Ebonyi Council Chairman’s house, kill three family members, security guard

Unknown Gunmen on Tuesday night stormed the country home of lkwo Local Government Chairman, Ebonyi State, Mr Steve Orogwu, gunning down three of his family members on the spot.

The gunmen numbering about seven also killed a security guard on duty while burning down houses.

The local government chairman had left the house few minutes before the unknown gunmen arrived.

A reliable source close to the family said that the hoodlums stormed the chairman’s home in Ekpaomaka, shooting sporadically.

Speaking from an unknown destination, Mr Orogwu confirmed the incident to News Express on Wednesday morning.

He said: “They attacked my family compound at Ikwo at night and killed my elder brother and two of his sons and a security guard.”

The traumatised council boss said that the gunmen set ablaze the family’s house.

It was further learnt that the corpses of the victims have been taken to a mortuary in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The reason for the attack could not be ascertained at the time of this report.

The spokesperson of the police in the state, Loveth Odah, said she was away on an official assignment when contacted for comments.
