Azman halts operations as airlines begin nationwide shutdown
Azman Air has announced an indefinite suspension of its flights across the nation.
This is in compliance with the directive of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) to shut operations over hike in aviation fuel.
While one of the AON members, Ibom Air, said it would continue normal operations, Azman Air announced the suspension of its flights, with effect from Monday.
The airline is owned by the President of AON, Alhaji Abdulmunaf Yunusa Sarina, who briefed the press on the development on Friday.
The statement read, “In compliance with the verdict of Airline Operators of Nigeria to discontinue operations Nationwide starting from Monday May 9th, 2022; Azman Air Management will like to inform its Esteemed Passengers that all our domestic operations are now SUSPENDED till further notice.
“The situation leading to this difficult decision is truly a pathetic one and we pray there is a quick intervention to restore the sustainability of Air Transport in Nigeria. We will like to kindly appeal to all our passengers to persevere with us during this tough times while we regret all inconveniencies caused. Hopefully, we will see you again soon.”
The Federal Government had appealed to the airlines not to suspend operations.
Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, made the appeal, saying though the issue of fuel supply is not within the purview of the Ministry, it would engage with agencies, institutions and individuals in position to provide succour to the airlines. (Daily Trust)
