Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has ordered the prosecution of the hunters/forest guards who were seen in a viral video shaving the hair of a lady.

The Governor, who also disowned the group as working for his government, maintained that they must be brought to justice.

Speaking on Arise Television on Thursday, Lt Col Paul Hembah, Senior Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, said, “The four members of the group seen shaving the hair of the lady have been arrested and handed over to the police. As we speak, they are in police custody.

“They include the leader of the so-called leader of hunters and forest security guards, his deputy, the admin officer and adviser. They were arrested on the orders of the state governor, Samuel Ortom,” he said.

According to Hambah, the outfit was illegal, not an agency of the state government neither was it an agency of the Federal Government,

“Their actions were lawless and the state will not tolerate their activities any more. All their activities have been proscribed forthwith,” he stated.

Responding to a question on how a group could wear uniform and operate illegally in a state, the Security Adviser said, “Their activity could be traced to long years of military rule where people are used to uniforms and due to joblessness people just get illegal outfits and start recruiting youths.

“This outfit, according to them, was formed in view of the bill for establishment of the agency, it has been passed by the National Assembly and it is awaiting the President’s assent,” he explained.

It will be recalled that a video went viral a few days ago where a group of uniformed men were seen shaving the hair of a lady` in Benue State. (Daily Independent)
