Kola Abiola, son of the late acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential election, MKO Abiola, has said he will not respond to the comparison of Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to his late father, noting that he does not really know the governor.

Kola disclosed this on Arise TV’s programme: “One-on-One with Kola Abiola” on Friday.

His sister, Hafsat Abiola-Costello, who is the Director-General of the Yahaya Bello presidential campaign organisation, recently likened the governor to her late father.

She described the Kogi State Governor as a unifier, adding that he had something in common with her late father which is the ability to unite people and a strong belief in Nigerians.

She had said that, “When I look at Yahaya Bello, I see something that I saw also with my father, which is that, he is a unifier. He believes in Nigeria. We need a Nigerian leader that believes in Nigerians, that believes in all Nigerian people and fights for all Nigerian people. MKO Abiola was such a man. This governor, Yahaya Bello is also such a person.”

However, Kola, while speaking on the TV programme, said, “I don’t want to talk about Yahaya Bello, I don’t know him well enough.”

While describing his father as a national brand who belonged to all Nigerians, Kola said as the head of the family, he would not discuss the family issue in public.

He added, “I have to play the mature one and that is my role even at my own expense.”

Kola joined the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) last Thursday and it is believed that he may soon declare his intention to contest the presidential election come 2023. (Daily Trust)
