Remo Stars FC goalkeeper, Kayode Bankole, on Tuesday decamped from the National U-20 team, the Flying Eagles’ screening exercise holding in Abuja due to his age.

The lanky goalkeeper was born in 2002, which automatically ruled him out of the tournament.

Confirming this in Abuja, Head Coach Ladan Bosso said it was regrettable that the goalkeeper was already above the stipulated age, as he would have been a quality addition to the team.

Meanwhile, following criticisms that greeted the list of 40 players invited to camp, Bosso has invited six more Nigeria Professional League players to the Abuja camp.

Top on the list of the newly invited players are three Kwara United’s players, Shola Raheem, Abdulsalam Abdulsalam, Musa Afeez Aka Olororo.

Others are Plateau United’s Hillary Albert, Shooting Stars’ Ayo Adejubu and Abia Warriors’ Henry Uzodika.

“Unknown to people, we shortlisted 28 players from the NPFL Clubs, 14 of them could not sail through the age checks at the TMS level. So, we have to replace them”.

“We have only 3 weeks to get the team in order and there is no time to waste at all” he concluded.

The Flying Eagles opened camp for the competition in Abuja on Monday and are in Group B along with the Black Satellites of Ghana and Young Stallions of Burkina Faso.

The competition will kick off in Niamey on May 7 with the two finalists qualifying for the Africa U-20 Nations Cup in Egypt.(Daily Trust)
