Police repel gunmen attack in Ebonyi, kill one
Police officers have repelled an attack by gunmen in the Ịkwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The gunmen were said to have attacked the policemen, who were attached to a construction company working in the area.
Details of the incident were still sketchy at the time of filing this report, but a source said the incident happened in Omege Noyo area of the Ikwo council.
The gunmen were said to have attacked the policemen on Friday, but the policemen engaged them in a shootout.
The source said one of the gunmen was killed during the shootout while a police officer was injured and in critical condition at a hospital.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident but noted she was yet to get full details of what happened.
She reiterated that the police were, however, on the trail of the attackers and expressed hope that they will soon be apprehended.
The attack happened the same day that unknown gunmen attacked and killed a member of the Ebubeagu security outfit in the state.
