Angry mob burnt suspected armed-robber to death in Ughelli

An unidentified man, who allegedly carried out a failed robbery attempt on a female Point of Sales (POS) operator, was burnt to death by an angry mob on Friday, on the NNPC Roundabout, along Isoko Road, Ughelli.
According to eye witnesses accounts, the unidentified man went to one of the shops in a plaza located at Evuata area of Ughelli and ordered a female POS operator at gun point, to give him all the money she had with her.
The brave woman, according to the eyewitness, however did the otherwise by raising an alarm which subsequently alerted other shop owners and passers-by, who immediately gave the robber, who was then fleeing for his life, a hot chase.
The alleged robber, in an attempt to warn his assailants to steer clear, began to shoot sporadically at them and in the process shot a commercial motor cyclist, who luckily was not fatally wounded.
The unrelenting mob were however not deterred by his action, and continued to chase after him till they caught him and was immediately set ablaze with old tyres.
As at the time our correspondent arrived the scene, there was no police presence and a mammoth crowd besieged the scene to have a glance of the man who was burning in fire set on him.
As at the time of filing this report, the police Spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, who was contacted by call to confirm and to comment on the incident, said that he was in the middle of something very important and promised to get back. (Delta State News Bulletin)
