Obi understands economy, performed well in governance — Jerry Gana

Jerry Gana, a former Minister of Information has described Former Governor Peter Obi as one who understands the workings of the nation’s economy and readily proffers solutions to economic challenges at institutional and national levels.

Gana, who was the Chairman at the 2022 Reunion of Alumni Association of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, themed, “Survival Strategy in a Devastated Economy”, explained that Nigeria’s economy was obviously devastated.

“The prices of goods and services in the market have gone beyond the reach of the struggling masses. The level of insecurity arising from unemployment in the country, is alarming. Our economic indices are all showing negative outlook. Our economy is truly devastated,” Gana lamented.

He argued that Nigeria’s economy needs to be urgently rescued, redirected and restructured. He pointed out that Nigeria needs a leader with good knowledge of the economy to salvage the nation, come 2023.

“We, as Nigerians, must make sure that in this election, we will go for the very best. Whoever takes over as the President, in 2023, must be a very knowledgeable and competent person with a track record of success in governance, capacity and integrity. He must be one with a burning passion to develop Nigeria,” Gana said.

Speaking highly of Peter Obi, Gana said: “Obi is an expert when it comes to economic matters. He understands the economy and readily proffers solutions to national economic challenges. And that helped him to govern well as the Governor of Anambra State. We need his type at the national level.”
