Rivers tipper driver commits suicide, group suspects foul play

Members of Tipper Drivers Association of Nigeria Eagle Island branch said they suspected foul play in the reported suicide of a man, identified simply as Justice, one of its members, in the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The South-South Chairman of the association, Prince Barifodum, confirmed the incident.

Barifodum, however, raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the death, as he called on the police to carry out a thorough investigation into the case.

The lifeless body of the victim was found dangling from a rope tied to a tree at the back of Octopus Sandfill Jetty, in the Island.

It was gathered that Justice was a member of the Tipper Drivers Association of Nigeria, Eagle Island branch.

“When there is suicide, there are things that are peculiar to such acts, so we are still requesting that the police do an investigation into what really happened,” Barifodum stated.

The acting spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, also confirmed the incident.

“We are aware of the incident and we have started investigation to ascertain what led to it. That is all I can say for now,” Iringe-Koko stated. (The PUNCH )
