Pro-Tinubu, Osinbajo groups suspend activities

The 2023 presidency support groups of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, have eased their activities for the aspiration of their principals till after the February 26 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC). New Telegraph learnt that the apex leadership of the support groups ordered the suspension of the activities, especially those that involved the public through the media.

According to multiple sources, it was learnt that apex co-ordinators of the Tinubu and Osinbajo support groups halted the activities of the different advocacies being embarked upon and suspended further engagement, especially in the media space till after the convention. Though Osinbajo has not formally declared a presidential bid for the 2023 polls, there has, however, been a massive national mobilisation projecting the Professor of Law as the likely successor of his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari.

In contrast to the VP, Tinubu has declared his intention to run for the presidency and this has also activated structures for him across the country. Osinbajo served as a cabinet member in Tinubu’s administration in Lagos between 1999 and 2007. They are both from the Southwest.

There has been an upsurge in advocacies and mobilisation for both men by different support groups across the six geo-political zones since the beginning of the New Year. The groups have been urging support, engaging stakeholders and mobilising interactions to enhance the chances of their principals ahead of the 2023 presidency. Last month, the various support groups in support of the presidential ambition of Tinubu were merged into a single structure. The support groups announced their merger at an event organised by the Support Group Management Council in Abuja where Tinubu supporters of different factions agreed to work together.
