President Muhammadu Buhari has called off a meeting he was scheduled to hold with the Progressive Governor’s Forum (PGF) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Although the agenda of the failed meeting could not be ascertained as at Tuesday evening, it was suspected to be connected with the planned National Convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was gathered that the meeting was expected to discuss, among others, the modalities for holding the convention especially the setting up of sub-committees to ensure the success of the exercise.

Most of the APC Governors were said to have arrived Abuja on Monday for the Tuesday meeting before they heard of the cancellation through the Progressive Governors Forum, which is the umbrella body of APC Governors.

Governors, who had arrived at the Presidential Villa for the meeting, which was not listed as part of the President’s itinerary for the day, include the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) Kayode Fayemi; Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum Simon Lalong (Plateau); Ben Ayade (Cross River); and Mallam Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna).

Governors Udodinma and Bello were also ready to be part of the meeting.

It was believed the President changed his mind about the meeting because it was almost his departure time for the trip to Belgium.

It could not be ascertained if a new date was set for the meeting.
