Youths set two suspected robbers ablaze
Two suspected armed robbers were on Thursday set ablaze by angry youths along Nkume junction along Mgbabano-Umuaka Road, Eziama Obaire in Nkwere Council Area of Imo State.
The irate youths overpowered the suspected robbers who attempted to rob a cyclist and set them ablaze.
It gathered that the incident occurred early hours of Thursday when four robbers on two motorcycles tried to overpower a commercial motorcycle rider at Nkume junction by Mgbabano-Umuaka Road, Eziama.
An eyewitness, Chikezie Nwadike, said the suspects whose charred remains were still smoldering when he visited the scene were members of a notorious gang of four men using motorcycles to operate before luck ran out on them.
He said the alarm raised by the commercial cyclist attracted youths in the area who caught them and immediately set them on fire while two other suspects escaped.
“They arrived on two motorcycles and the two on the passenger seat alighted and suddenly accosted the commercial cyclist trying to snatch his bike. The suspects were said to have been beaten to death before they were set ablaze,” the source said.
Imo Police spokesman Michael Abattam said he had not been briefed and promised to call the DPO of the area where the incident happened for details.
