PDP suspends Ortom’s in-law, three others over anti-party activities

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State on Monday suspended four members over alleged anti-party activities.

It was reported that the suspended members by the PDP in Gwer West include, the state governor’s in-law, Prince Simon Aondoana; a former federal legislator, Chief Goddy Ikyereve; and two others.

The party, however, alleged anti-party activities as a reason for the suspension of the four people.

At the time of filing this report, the duo of Ikyereve and Aondoana, have circulated their resignation letters from the PDP on social media.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state had fixed dates to welcome new entrants from the PDP, some of which are among the suspended members.

One of the media aides to the Governor, Jimmin Geoffrey, said the decision was taken at a stakeholders meeting of the party from Gwer West held in Makurdi on Monday.

Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom had met with members of PDP from Gwer West LGA at the Government House in Makurdi where reports of defection of some members of the PDP to the opposition were tabled before him.

Ortom, while reacting to the reports, noted that he was not against anyone defecting to any political party of his or her choice.

He, however, stated that any right-thinking person would not contemplate joining a sinking party, such as the APC, for whatever reason, adding that the PDP was poised to win the presidency in 2023.
